If Thor stands under electricity, it could be a power supply of ASUS - because ASUS manufactures power supplies that carry the brand name Thor. As well as the PC Games Hardware reported, the Group has announced new power supply parts of the Thor series and also reveals a special feature to which we will come later.
ASUS Thor power supply confirms PCIe 5.0 at RTX 3090 Ti
The new top model bears the name Asus Rog Thor Titanium and is classified as a 1600 watt model. The joint Titanium stands for the very high efficiency that offers the power supply. Also newly announced Asus more models of the Rog Thor series, but only with the classification Platinum, which is also very good and ranked above the gold label.
The Asus Rog Thor Platinum II power supplies will give it with 850, 1000 and 1200 Watt rated performance. Cheaper than the two models of the first Thor Platinum series currently available are unlikely to become the new models - thus prices of more than 200 euros are to be expected for the 850 watts and over 300 euros for the 1200 watt variant.
Important among the new models, however, is above all the fact that you provide matching plugs or at least adapter for the new PCIe 5.0 connection of graphics cards. This becomes - that has confirmed Asus by the Power Advertisement - at the probably expected NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti are used.
Both the new NVIDIA graphics card and the Thor Titanium power supply of ASUS are, of course, only for very special scenarios an option - a normal gaming PC, even with a strong CPU and a graphics card like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT usually comes to a maximum of 500 watts at load, so that even for catching short performance tips, a 700 watt marking power supply is more than just sufficient.
We may learn about Asus on 3 November more on the topic, because on the day Asus stops the event WoW The World at 16 o clock German time.
